- Theophylline has a narrow safety margin; overdose can cause vomiting, restlessness, rapid heart rate, irregular heartbeat and seizures. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your veterinarian.
- Intravenous injection should be given slowly by a veterinarian
- Drug interactions: inform your veterinarian about all other medicines your pet is receiving. Certain antibiotics (such as enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and erythromycin) and cimetidine can raise theophylline levels, while phenobarbital can lower them.
- Use with caution, and only under veterinary guidance, in animals with heart disease, liver or kidney disease, seizure disorders, hyperthyroidism or stomach ulcers
- Consult your veterinarian before use in pregnant or lactating animals
- Seek veterinary attention immediately if any unusual signs are observed after administration
