Corise Taclimus Eye Ointment | Tacrolimus 0.1% w/w | For Dogs & Cats | 5 g
Corise Taclimus Eye Ointment contains Tacrolimus 0.1% w/w, a topical immunosuppressive agent derived from Streptomyces tsukubaensis. This specialized ophthalmic ointment is primarily indicated for the management of Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS, also known as Dry Eye Syndrome) in dogs and cats, particularly in cases resistant to cyclosporine therapy.
Tacrolimus works by stimulating lacrimal gland function and preventing further tissue destruction in immune-mediated ocular conditions.
Composition (per gram)
- Tacrolimus: 0.1% w/w
- Sterile Ointment Base: q.s.
Primary Indications
For Ophthalmic Use:
- Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS/Dry Eye Syndrome) - especially in cases resistant to cyclosporine therapy
- Chronic Superficial Keratitis (Pannus)
- Immune-mediated ocular surface disorders
For Topical Dermatological Use: When prescribed by a veterinarian, may also be applied topically for:
- Atopic Dermatitis (localized areas)
- Miliary Dermatitis
- Inflammatory skin conditions around periocular areas
- Canine Atopic Dermatitis-associated infections
Mechanism of Action
Tacrolimus is a macrolide immunosuppressant that:
- Stimulates tear glands in animals with KCS (Dry Eye Syndrome)
- Prevents further destruction of lacrimal gland tissue in immune-mediated conditions
- Inhibits T-cell activation and reduces production of pro-inflammatory cytokines
- Suppresses immune-mediated responses that cause tissue damage in autoimmune ocular and skin conditions
This dual action makes it effective for both stimulating natural tear production and controlling inflammation in chronic ocular and dermatological disorders.
Dosage & Administration
For Ocular Use (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca):
- Apply a small amount (approximately rice grain size) to the affected eye(s) every 12 hours (twice daily)
- Clean the affected eye area gently before application
- Gently pull down the lower eyelid and apply the ointment to the inside of the eyelid
- Allow the pet to blink several times to distribute the ointment
- Prevent the pet from rubbing or pawing at the eye immediately after application
For Topical Dermatological Use:
- Clean and dry the affected skin area before application
- Apply a thin layer to affected areas twice daily (every 12 hours)
- Gently massage into the skin until absorbed
- Do not allow the pet to lick the treated area until completely dry (approximately 20-30 minutes)
- Safe for application on face, neck, groin, and periocular areas
Treatment Duration:
- Continue treatment for the full duration prescribed by your veterinarian
- Some animals with immune-mediated KCS may require lifelong tacrolimus therapy
- Do not discontinue treatment without consulting your veterinarian, even if symptoms improve
- Regular veterinary follow-ups are essential to monitor treatment response
